Union cabinet nods to two locomotive factories in Bihar

 

Patna, (Bihar Times): The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved setting up of an electric locomotive factory at Madhepura in Bihar and, a diesel locomotive factory at Marhaura in Chapra in the same state. The scheme will be executed through Public Private Partnership (PPP). The two projects is estimated to cost Rs 2,800 crore. In 2005 Lalu won from both Madhepura and Chapra, but later chose to represent the latter in Parliament.

Briefing about the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs Mr. Chidambaram said that the government approved the continuation of central schemes on marine fisheries during the 11th plan. Besides, the approval of two-lane and four- lane of some road projects, the government has also given its nod for modification in the Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission allowing the states to purchase buses for urban transport.

The Cabinet also approved setting up of two AIIMS like institutions in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal besides up-grading five medical colleges to provide quality health care to the people. The five medical colleges are in the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

In another decision, pertaining to rural development ministry, the government has added two more vulnerable groups under the National Social Assistance Programme to receive a monthly pension of Rs 200 from the Centre and a matching or above amount from the state government. Mr.Chidambaram said that earlier all persons above the age of 65 years and below poverty line were entitled for this scheme. And, now widows and disabled persons are added to the list. He said that about 25 lakh widows and 16 lakh disabled persons will benefit by the scheme.
