Nothing for Bihar in budget, rues Nitish

Patna, (Bihar Times): Flaying the interim budget the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said on Monday that the acting finance minister Pranab Mukherjee had not announced any economic package for Bihar.

“For the last two years we have been trying to meet the Prime Minister for the special status to Bihar but we have not been granted an audience,” he told newsmen in Banka, where he started the fourth-leg of his Vikas Yatra. The chief minister alleged that the Centre has enough money to bail out the big business houses but not for the poor state like Bihar. The state saw a devastating flood last year yet the Centre has not provided adequate fund for the relief and rehabilitation of the displaced people of the Kosi belt. This is simply an election budget, he added.

Nitish also held the railway minister Lalu Yadav responsible for the collapse of the railway over-bridge, which was under-construction, in Muzaffarpur early on Monday. Three people lost their lives in this mishap. Like almost all the rail over-bridges in the state this one is also being built by the Indian Railway Construction Corporation (IRCON).

It needs to be mentioned that a few months back three dozen people lost their lives when a portion of old bridge fell on the Howrah-Jamalpur Superfast Express just east to Bhagalpur railway station. This old bridge was getting dismantled as the new one had started functioning.
