Court dismisses jailed MP's plea to attend parliament

New Delhi, Feb 16 : The Delhi High Court Monday dismissed a plea from jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammed Shahabuddin to be allowed to attend parliament.

Shahabuddin, who is serving life imprisonment in a kidnapping case in Bihar's Siwan jail, had filed a petition requesting that he be allowed to attend the Feb 16-26 Lok Sabha session.

The MP gave the example of the go-ahead given to his party colleague and jailed MP Rajesh Ranjan Yadav alias Pappu Yadav.

Justice Ravinder Bhat dismissed Shahabuddin's plea saying the court had no jurisdiction to grant him permission. It asked him to approach the Patna High Court for relief as he is lodged in Siwan jail.

Shahabuddin has been in jail since May 2007. He has also been convicted in five other criminal cases.
