I-T raids on banker, contractor premises in Bihar, Jharkhand

 

Patna, (Bihar Times): A sum of Rs 75 lakh was seized and huge undisclosed investments were detected during income-tax raids on the premises of a contractor, a banker and two government officials of Bihar and Jharkhand on Tuesday.

According to media reports ten raiding teams, consisting of over 50 I-T personnel, raided the premises of contractor Ram Kripal Singh, Jharkhand government engineer Paras Kumar, Jharkhand Administrative Service official Deonis Kiro and SBI official Ratnesh Sharma, currently posted at Sheetalpur in Saran district of Bihar.

The raids were conducted simultaneously at Ranchi and Deoghar in Jharkhand, Patna and Begusarai in Bihar and Gurgaon in Haryana.

Reports also said that the cash to the tune of Rs 30 lakh and several bank accounts were seized from the residential and business premises of Singh at Begusarai, Ranchi and Gurgaon. His two bank lockers were also seized.

Singh hails from Begusarai and is a co-owner of Ram Kripal Singh Construction Private Limited which is engaged in various construction activities in Jharkhand and other states.

Paras, on the other hand, floated a construction company, Sujata Udit Builders Private Limited, which is shown to be owned by his wife Sujata and brother-in-law Udit Singh.

A sum of Rs 35 lakh, two lockers and several bank accounts were seized on his business and residential premises at Ranchi, Deoghar and Patna. Ratnesh worked as a close associate of Kumar. He has also floated a company, Panchwati Colonisers and Construction Private Limited, which is owned by his wife Vandana Sharma and brother-in-law Suman.

According to sources the company has constructed Vishwa Shakuntalam, Dharma, Sri Ganesh and Ganpati apartments in Mahesh Nagar locality and Mangalmurti Apartment in Rajendra Nagar locality in Patna. Work is on on the company’s another project, Saraswati Siyaram Parishad, in S K Nagar locality.

The raid on Sharma's residential premises at Mahesh Nagar in Patna led to seizure of Rs 2 lakh and several documents showing huge investments in land deals at Patna and Nagpur. The seized papers also revealed that the Sharmas have constructed a huge house at Noida in UP.

The taxmen seized Rs 10 lakh from Kiro's palatial house at Shukla Colony in Ranchi. The actual worth of his house is yet to be calculated. Kiro, who was till recently posted as deputy collector (land reforms) of Ranchi, paid Rs 35 lakh as LIC premium within three days in September last year, the sources said.

I-T's Bihar and Jharkhand director (investigation) Shambhu Dutt Jha confirmed the raids. He, however, refused to divulge details.
