Nalanda International University Mentor Group meet to take place in Bodh Gaya

 

Patna, (Bihar Times): The Mentor Group of the Nalanda International University is to meet at Bodh Gaya under the chairmanship of Nobel Laurete, Dr Amartya Sena, and will visit the proposed site on the following day. This will be followed by their meeting with the chief minister, Nitish Kumar, who is reportedly keen to start the acadmic session at the earliest.

The Mentor Group will send its final recommendation to the Union government, which will pave the way for the proposed Bill being cleared by Parliament.

Reports said that once the Bill is enacted the formal process for infrastructure for the University, with the help of international support, would get underway.

The Singaporean foreign minister, George Yeo, a leading member of the Mentor Group is likely to arrive in Patna to attend the meeting. Y S Rajan, the advisor to the former President A P J Abdul Kalam, whose brain child this University is, will also be arriving on that day. Lord Meghnad Desai of London School of Economics, Professor Saugata Bose of Harvard and Professor Tansen, Prof Bonwel and Prof Takanashi from Japan, and N K Singh, Rajya Sabha MP and deputy chairman Bihar Planning Board, are to attend the meeting.

So far 475 acres of land has been acquired for this central university and the process is on to acquire 500 acres more.
