80,000 lawyers stay away from work in Bihar

Patna, Feb 25 : About 80,000 lawyers in Bihar abstained from work Wednesday because they are opposed to the government decision to change the court timings by 15 minutes.

"We decided to abstain from work to send a message that lawyers are opposed to the new court timings and want restoration of old court timings," said Yogesh Chandra Verma, convenor of the coordination committee of three lawyers' associations.

He said the new timings are causing inconvenience to people, lawyers and judicial officers.

The lawyers are demanding restoration of old timings in the high court, district courts and sub-divisional courts, he added.

The state government rescheduled the timings to 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. two weeks ago from 10.15 a.m. to 4.15 p.m..
