Siblings from Bihar in award-winning Slumdog Millionaire’s team

Patna, (Bihar Times): Anuradha Singh (37), Vivek Pratap and Gyanendra Pratap are sister and brothers. They are the team-members of the Oscar Award winning film, Slumdog Millionaire.

Daughter and sons of Ravindra Pratap Singh, a social activist of Gaya in Bihar and Urmila Vaishali, the three have done proud to their ancestral village Punawan under Wazirganj block of the district.

Anuradha, the assembly editor of the film, did her schooling from Vanasthali Vidyapeeth in Rajasthan, graduation in Political Science from Patna Women’s College and MA in the same subject from Hindu College, New Delhi. She did a degree course in film editing from Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.

Vivek, who also worked as the assembly editor, did his schooling from Gyan Bharti in Bodh Gaya before jumping into the editing profession along with his sister. He worked in serials like Reet Ki Dariya and Buggi Buggi.

Gyananedra did his schooling from Sainik School Tilaya (now in Jharkhand), R K Mission School, Narendrapur, Kolkata and Plus-II from Army Public School in New Delhi. He did his graduation from Mirza Ghalib College in Gaya. Gyan worked in the Digital Media Management section of the film.

Anuradha is the first woman from India to have worked as an independent editor for four Hollywood films––Marigold, Blood Money, Wings of Legacy and The Forest.

She started her career in Bollywood as an assistant editor in the film, Jahan Tum Le Chalo to be followed by Officer, Hum Tum Par Marte Hain and Mission Kashmir of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, whose wife Renu Saluja promoted her much, especially in film editing.

She had also made documentaries like Touch the Sky With Glory, Ek Lamha (on cancer) and In Front of My Eyes (on police atrocities). It was while doing MA in Political Science from Hindu College that Anuradha realized the impact of films on the society. Therefore, she pursued it as a career. It was largely at her initiative that the two brothers also followed the suit.

Their grandfather, Kumar Pratap Singh, was a freedom fighter. Thus the three had no film-family background.
