Kosi breach: Bihar govt rejects demand of CBI probe

Patna, (Bihar Times): The Nitish government on Wednesday rejected the demand of several opposition MLAs for a CBI investigation into the breach of Kosi embankment at Kusaha in Nepal, which caused massive widespread floods and deth to thousands of people in five districts of the state.

State Water Resource Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav, while replying to a starred question in the state assembly, said the government had already instituted a judicial probe to find out whether the breach was caused due to the failure of any individual or institution.

The minister said that the state government is not in a position to take punitive action against officials at this stage. Kishore Kumar Munna, who had asked the question, insisted that only a CBI inquiry would bring forth the truth and those who neglected their duty could be punished. While the minister appealed to the member to wait for action till the recommendations of the judicial commission were received by the state government, Munna and Left parties’ MLAs trooped into the well of the House to mark their protest.

They were soon also joined by the members of the main opposition party RJD, Congress and LJP, who had also been pressing for a CBI probe into the matter. Later, the agitated MLAs staged a walk-out from the House.
