School teachers in Bihar drawing salary less than peons

Patna, (Bihar Times): Believe it or not primary school teachers appointed on a consolidated salary by the state government in the last couple of years get Rs 4,000 less than the fourth grade employees of Bihar. Teachers of 10+2 schools in the group also draw Rs 1,000 less than the peon.

The irony is that many of these teachers are post-graduate degree holders or are PhD.

Reports said that while implementing the Sixth Pay Commission the government did not heed the demands of the two lakh newly recruited para-teachers from primary to plus-two level appointed on fixed pay ranging from Rs 4,000 to Rs 7,000.

However, the human resources development minister, Harinarayan Singh, has assured that the state will take up the issue of their salary. However, he did not give any time frame for a hike in emoluments of these teachers.
