Patna Police goes people friendly

Patna, (Bihar Times): To refurbish its image the Patna Police has decided to go people’s friendly. From January 20 it is going to introduce a new style of policing. Initially this will be confined to the Patliputra and Kadam Kuan Police Stations of the state capital.

Under the plan each police stations have been divided into several beats. There will be 15 beats under Patliputra and 27 beats under Kadam Kuan police stations. Each beat will have one constable. He will go to each and every house of the locality to inquire aboute the law and order situation. The constable will carry a register and a pen. He will note down the complaints of the residents of the locality. If the case is petty he would solve it on his own level. If the matter is serious he would refer it to the station house officer or even senior officers.

Each beat constable will knock at ten doors daily. The police is sure that this system would help check the crime, especially the petty ones.

According to the senior superintendent of police, Patna, Amit Kumar, if the formula clicked this type of policing would be introduced in the entire state capital. He said that the beat constables would be imparted special training to deal with the residents. If the need arises the number of cops per beat can be increased, he added.

The idea seems to be not bad, provided the input of the constable will be taken seriously and action should come into effect.
In our society the police has become so corrupt that a FIR is not loged unless and untill you grease the palm to the Thana authority.
