Shatrughan likely to be BJP’s Patna Saheb candidate

Patna, (Bihar Times): Cine-star and former Union Shipping Minister Shatrughan Sinha, will be the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate for the Patna Saheb seat in Bihar in the Lok Sabha elections.

According to reports quoting a top BJP functionary involved in selection of candidates disclosed in New Delhi on Friday said he was not nominated to the Rajya Sabha and so it is logical that the party would field him in the Lok Sabha elections.
He, however, said that the final decision would be taken by the party’s central election committee that resumes selection of candidates from Monday.
The functionary was commenting on media reports of a tussle between Shatrughan and BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad, also a former Union minister, over the ticket for the Patna Saheb seat.
The report said that there was no confusion in the party as Prasad is already in the Rajya Sabha and naturally it is Sinha who should go to the Lok Sabha.
A few days back Shatrughan claimed that he  had the blessings of prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishan Advani and BJP president Rajnath Singh to contest from Patna Saheb, since Patna is his hometown.

Though both Shatrughan and Ravi Shankar are Kayasthas from Patna the former definitely has a much larger support base than the latter. According to the party insiders Ravi Shankar is Rajya Sabha type candidate and the party can not take risk by putting him up for the prestigious Patna Saheb seat. The old Patna parliamentary constiteuency is in the hands of the RJD.
