| Patna, (Bihar Times): The very first Janata Darbar of the chief minister organized at Patilar village under the West Champaran district of Bihar on Tuesday was marred by police lathicharge on the villagers, who were angry with the corrupt officials, who were presenting false statistics before Nitish Kumar. At least three persons, including one woman, were seriously injured in the incident. One of the injured was hit by the police butt on the nose. The anger of the people took the chief minister, his cabinet colleagues and senior officials from Patna by surprise. Reports said that the people went wild when they were reportedly prevented by the officials from making complaints. They charged that the officials are demanding bribes in the appointed of para-teachers, in the allotment of house under the Indira Awas Yojana and the construction of septic latrine. Later talking to the reporter of a television channel the chief minister assured that his government would come down heavily on the corrupt officers and employees of the state government. He said that it was he who encouraged people to put up their grievances. He brushed aside the criticism and said that transparency would strengthen democracy. On spending the first night in a tented-camp he said that he felt very satisfied to be among the people. Recalling his days in the Bihar College of Engineering he said that “I spent a night in a similar way when he and some of the students of the engineering college went for a survey work.”
