Amitabh remarks on violence in Bihar creates controversy

Patna, (Bihar Tims): Cine-star Amitabh Bachchan feels that Bihar witnesses maximum number of incidents of violence in the country. However, his remarks did not go down well with personalities like Shekhar Suman saying that it would be wrong to blame Bihar for all the ills as situation has been improving here.
Speaking at the Jaipur Literature Festival in the Rajasthan capital on Friday Amitabh said that it would be wrong to blame cinema for the rise in violence in the society. The greatest violence took place in the sub-continent during the time of partition. Is the cinema responsible for it? He said that “so far what I read in newspapers I can say that Bihar witnesses maximum violence when the fact is that the number of theatres there is much fewer than in Andhra Pradesh where violence is much less.”
He was in Jaipur for a day to release his biography, Bachchanalia: The Films and Memorabilia of Amitabh Bachchan, spanning 40 years of his career in the Hindi film industry.

The book co-authored by Mumbai-based author Bhawana Somaaya and the Mumbai-based auction house and archive OSIAN's Centre for Archiving, Research and Development (CARD) wing - is the maiden publication of Osian's publishing and design department.

He praised the sound engineer of what he called wonderful movie Slumdog Millionaire, Rasool, an Indian, has also won a nomination along with Rahman. I am so happy. Bhanu Athaiya was the last Indian to win an Oscar for the designing the costumes of Richard Attenborough's 'Gandhi' in 1982," Bachchan said at an overflowing venue.

Referring to his comment regarding Slumdog Millionaire that “the film projects India as Third World’s dirty underbelly developing nation and causes pain and disgust among nationalists and patriots”, he said: “I write a blog. But the opinions expressed in my blog were not my own. So many people write on my blog site and I was just quoting one of them. I have spoken to Anil Kapoor and Danny Boyle and cleared the misgivings. But everyone must have freedom of expression.”

He said “Indian cinema is gaining global acceptance. I was in Paris two weeks ago for Salon Du Cinema, a festival of world films, where India and my family were the focus this time.

"I realised that the Indian movie industry was being acknowledged and Hindi movies were being shown on television channels in countries like France, Germany and all over Europe - even in those European nations where there had been no awareness about Indian movies before. If you want a personal and an honest opinion, I think Indian movies are paramount. They don't fall short in any way globally - be it in terms of cinematography, content or the cast. I am very happy with the kind of movies we are making. The Oscar is in its place––the fact that they have decided to nominate one of our artistes is heartening,” he said.

He held forth on a variety of subjects - ranging from his relationship with his son, reading habits, concern for junior artistes in Mumbai, secular fabric of the country and his own life.

However, reputed theatre personality from Bihar Shekar Suman said “that there was no doubt that Amitabh Bachchan is a Mahanayak and he has all the respect for him yet what he said about Bihar is not right.” The state is showing signs of improvement under Nitishji. He, however, felt that Amitabh would soon apologize for what he might said inadvertently.

Our constitution has given the right to freedom of speech to every citizens of India. Our legal system has drawn an imaginary line to curb the insensible act and talk in the public place. Insensible talk is not limited to abusive words rather defaming any individual or group by taking the privilege of the freedom is also prohibited.

When Mrs Jaya said in one of the TV programmes that she prefers to speak in Hindi, she was taken to the street by the MNS and this first person of Bollywood or so called Big B appologised to MNS just to keep them please so that he and his family could survive in Maharashtra.

Mr. Amithabh Bachchan" yes do have right to freedom of speech and so is everyone. I believe that you are a person who potrays the reality through cinema to the masses and I am sure you would be fully aware about the reality.

"BETTER YOU EXPRESS WHAT YOU SEE" AND NOT WHAT YOU HEAR. How many times did you go to Bihar? How many times did you come across the violence in Bihar? Your comment on Bihar is shameful and I pray to God to bless you to express the truth without hurting the sentiments of others.

You hear the violence in Bihar but you do not see the crimes in U.P and Maharashtra. The scenario of the world is changing very fast. We have strong believe that our new generation politicians of Bihar will improve the positive image of Bihar under the leadership of Honourable Chief Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar.

Making money is good but at least you should spare some time and wtach news to keep yourself updated. I suggest you, please watch "Sansani" on Star News, and Crime File on Zee News, your perception will be shifted. In the reports more than fifty percent of crimes used to happen in most of the cities of UP e.g. Muzaffarnagar, Noida, Ghaziabad, Ghazi pur, Saharanpur, Kanpur, Lucknow etc. Second position goes to Delhi and Punjab and third position goes to rest of India.

Also, try to recall your memory you will remember many names who are the Bhai, Dada, Exortionist, Robber, Killer of innocent, Mafia, etc and unfortunately they all are easily found in Maharashtra at every nukkar in considerable quantity.

Despite these all you speak that Bihar witnessess the maximum violence. Reel life is completely different than real life. Your reel life depends on the Story, Director, Support Actors and without them you can move even an inch. So you should consult with someone or try to dig out the facts prior to spite the venom against Bihar which is already neglected by Indian Media and the Central Goverment. Amit ji, if you have been accepted in the films, does not mean you will be accepted every where. We know that when you tried to change your field from film to politics, you could not survive more and that's the real life.

For your information, Bihar is the place where Lord Budha and Lord Jain were enlightened. It is the place of Shrimati Sita. It is the place of Dr Rajendra Prasad. It is the place where people worship you despite the fact that most of the people irrespective of religion, cast, creed etc believe that acting field is not compatible to their civilization. You have got the recognition not because of UP only rather were liked by all in India. Therefore, Mr Bachchan, show patriotism to all states of India and do not spread the wrong message for a particular state.

"Mr. Amithabh Bachchan" yes you are right, you do have the freedom of expression and every Indian has the same. But you are not blind, "YOU SHOULD EXPRESS WHAT YOU SEE". Your comment on Bihar is shameful and I condemn your shameful expression. You can see the crime in Bihar but you cant see the most crime prone state of India U.P. The people of India remember your advertisment "U.P. mei damm hai, kyon ke crime cum hai" and  the same people of the state Utter Pradesh slapped you on your face as a result. Watch "Sansani" on Star News, and Crime File on Zee News. And I challenge you 5 crime reports out of 10 is about Muzaffarnagar, Noida and Ghaziabad (U.P.)one from Delhi and Punjab and 3 from rest of India. And still you say Bihar witnessess the maximum violence. Open your eyes and see what is happening on the ground. Dont make fake and false statement sitting in the four walls of JALSA,. Dont make JALSA a point of JAALSAZI". I hope you understand our feelings and remember "Jinke Ghar Shishe ke hote Hain, Dusron ke Ghar par Patthar Nahi Marte".

It look like Mr. Amitabh is not having crime statistics of India, he is just passing bullshit, he must avoid such thingh and careful in passing such statement and while writing blog, people in India are paying attention to Mr. Amitabh because there is great respect in the heart of people but it does'nt mean he has right to pass comment on any issue in India.

Govt of Bihar should go for case of defamation against him, on the other hand we must appreciate Mr. Shekhar Suman to counter him through media.

You go to a Attorney for legal opinion since  he has attended a law school and he practices law. You go to a Doctor to get medical opinion as he has gone to a medical school and practices medicine. A movie actor - what does he do? Reads someone elses written dialogue. This is his job. To read lines written by someone else. Who gave them right to issue a public statement. Thier public statements belong to dust bin.

Please read what Amit jee has said: It would be wrong to blame cinema for the rise in violence in the society.

I can't find anything like "He" is blaming Bihar or any haterated for it. It's just a reference about violence. And yes I accept that Bihar is changing but still violence has not gone down. Anybody in the country names Bihar for it's violence. What's wrong if Amit jee said the same..!!! Why should not we change ourselves and make Bihar something like people give respect to us and instead of refering Bihar for violence, they should refer Bihar for something good..??

Anotherthing is Amit jee is like a Father figure for us, and we should respect him and his sayings.. Whatever he is saying is good and we should respect his sayings like we do for our elders... and we should promise to Amit jee that we will try to decrease the level of violence in Bihar.. Respect you and your thoughts Amit jee..!!!

Mr bachchan is a very important and highly placed person and it cannot be emphasised more that an important person has to choose words very carefully. Since the liberties of frivolity that we common people of the nation enjoy are not enjoyed by these celebrities. And ignoring such an advice generally results in the not-so-enviable foot-in-the-mouth disease(consider slumdog-millionaire episode), which he(-who-considers-himself-V-IMP) seems to have got infected with these days.
We must admit the right of anyone and everyone to express himself. Why else are we living in a democracy? But more often than not, this liberty is construed to be a freedom to spew venom without realising the after-effects of the words resulting in the abuse of this very freedom that they have been provided. The same abuse was evident some days back, if I remember correctly, when he(-who-is-a-real-mard...) usurped some acres of land claiming that he is a born farmer. Now, this claim was also based on his false understading of the mere definition of 'who is a farmer'. It was really pathetic to see 'a considered ROLE MODEL' fall to the level of we-mere-mortals just for a few acre of land. Belief of many in their hero had been shattered that time. Let we-the-mere-mortals not consider it as his faults as how can we question the wisdom of Shehanshah! Maybe, the definition is all screwed up !! Maybe the concept of freedom and democracy itself is screwed up for many.
Ok, forgive us, we shall change it in course of time. But again, it is not his fault. He has been living his life in movies and has it not been said 'Living a lie makes you believe the lie'. And he has started to believe that he lives the life of the Chosen one forgetting that he too is a mere mortal. That playing roles of shehanshah does not make him a shehanshan. That he is a nobody to pass his '2 words of wisdom' as and when he pleases. That he is a mere actor whose job is to act and please the audience. That he has to wait for his turn of UP and DOWN signal from us at the box office. That there were super hits before him and after him, with him and instead of him. And no doubt, he is quite good at acting which again does not give him a right to pass a judgement on a set of people who keep fighting their destiny for the tiny little ray of hope every now and then.

So, remember Mr Bachchan, You are an actor, just an actor and we would be glad to see you limit yourself to that virtual boundary.

And for your kind information and awareness about India:
Most rapes happen in Delhi
Most encounter in Mumbai
All the terrorism is in J&K
The biggest slum is in Mumbai(This I know you still dont accept rather realize)
Biggest naxal terrorism is in West Bengal and Andhra and now clutching Bihar too.
Surprise surprise, Bihar still does not figure!! And I am really disappointed with you for your irresponsible blabbering which shall not cease here, I am very confident of that.

What Bihar gave you was Budhhism and Jainism and the model of Rules, which fought Alexander to keep you free and it shall rise again since there is something called HOPE that we-mere-mortals cling to.

Well, I am not very proud while quoting these figures. I am in much shame as a citizen of India where these crimes are still there and shall be there for ever, where everyone shall have to fight for their right to live respectfully thanks to people like you. But then, there is HOPE.

I  do know amitabh bachchan is not a very educated man and therefore he does not understand that the number of violence has to be seen with comparison to it's population. violence per capita is one of the lowest in bihar in the entire nation. amitabh should keep his lack of knowledge to himself or he will arouse the sentiment of raj thakerey even more. if raj thakerey will notice amitabh.s foolish remark about bihar raj may start calling amitabh a true bhaiya.
