15-year old Farzana gets bravery award for saving five lives

 

Patna (Bihar Times): Fifteen-year old girl, Farzana, from Purnia district of Bihar was on the occasion of Republic Day given the Gallantry Award for saving the lives of five children from being drowned during the devastating floods in 2008.

Governor R L Bhatia handed over the award on behalf of the President to Farzana in a ceremony here. She was also presented with a cheque of Rs 45,000 from the State Government.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was also present on the occasion, said that others should take lessons from her. He announced that the State Government would bear the cost of her education.

He said that Farzana did not know swimming yet it was her sheer grit, determination and bravery which prompted her to save five lives.

She has earlier been awarded by the Hong Kong based Supreme Trust for her bravery.
