Jagannath Mishra blasts Nitish government, likely to join Congress

Patna, (Bihar Times): A day after the removal of party’s national spokesman and general secretary, Shambhu Sharan Srivastava, another senior Janata Dal (United)  leader, Dr Jagannath Mishra, on Thursday openly criticised the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government for not being serious in handling the Kosi floods and subsequent rehabilitation.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi he said he was not satisfied with the manner in which the Bihar government handled the post-flood situation in the state.

The three-time Chief Minister met President Pratibha Patil and handed over a memorandum on post-flood rehabilitation.

Mishra, who is the father of Nitish Mishra, the disaster management minister of Bihar, said that “during the last five months, only eight lakh quintal of foodgrain and Rs 192 crore have been distributed among the 33.33 lakh people affected by the
devastating Kosi floods. Even though the Central government  had released 1.25 lakh tonnes of foodgrains and Rs 1,000 crore to Bihar government for distribution to the affected people, the relief amount distributed by the state government is extremely inadequate,” the memorandum states.

Mishra also said while the Nitish Kumar government has sought more funds from the Centre, it has failed to provide any project reports where the money will be utilised.

"Mishra is in regular touch with congress leaders and would soon join congress along with his son who may contest parliament election on congress ticket " sources said.
