           | Patna, (Bihar Times): Former Union defence minister George Fernandes on Thursday announced that he would contest the coming Lok Sabha elections from Nalanda parliamentary seat in Bihar.
Talking to reporters at Rajgir Mr Fernandes, who is also the convener of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and an MP from Muzaffarpur said that he would like to contest from Nalanda Lok Sabha seat, which had been represented by him thrice in the past.

In 2004 he had to make way for Nitish Kumar, who contested from both Nalanda and Barh parliamentary seats. While he lost from Barh he retained Nalanda only to give up this seat after becoming the chief minister. This seat was later won by Ram Swaroop Prasad of the Janata Dal (United). But Prasad quit the party and joined the RJD on the occasion of trust vote last July.

It is to be seen whether Fernandes’ decision would get the backing of the chief minister or not as the two have not been in the best of terms. Though he is well above 80 he chose to attend the Chintan Shivir of the party and made his decision known to everyone
