Bihar MLCs enjoy more privileges

Patna,(BiharTimes): Four members of Bihar Legislative Council (MLCs), who were in Mumbai to study the working of the Legislative Council in Maharashtra, were surprised to know that they have more privileges than their counterparts there.

According to Ranjan Kumar Singh alias Munna Singh, a delegation of four members of the Bihar Legislative Council Regulatory Committee came to Maharashtra to study the privileges and benefits enjoyed by the MLCs there and also the Rules and Regulations of the Maharashtra Legislative Council.

He was, however, taken by surprise that while the manner of working is more or less the same in both states, MLCs in Bihar are provided a flat in the state capital while MLCs in Maharashtra have to stay in an MLA hostel. Besides, each Bihar MLC is given two bodyguards while MLCs in Maharashtra are given bodyguards only if they have been threatened.

What amazed the team more is that while Bihar MLCs are provided a sum of Rs 1.5 lakh for travel expenditure, including railway and air travel anywhere in India, in Maharastra, the MLCs can travel anywhere in Maharashtra or to Delhi.

In all only half a dozen states of India, out of 28, have Legislative Council.
