Bihar’s Kabaddi Girl Back Home With Gold From Asian Games

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Member of the gold medal winning women’s Kabbadi team in the recently concluded Guangzihou Asian Games, Smita Kumari, was given a warm welcome after her arrival here on Monday night. Smita hailed from Maranchi village in Bihar's Patna district.




The new State Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, was among others, who received her on arrival from New Delhi.

The minister said that Smita had not only brought pride to India but also for people of Bihar too and added that the state government would felicitate her soon and offer her a job. Incidentally, Smita was employed by the Indian Railways in 2008.

Smita said she had fulfilled the promise she made before leaving for participating in the Asian Game.

She said that it was a great moment for her when the Indian team defeated Thailand in the final and added that the contest was tough, especially against Iran and Bangladesh.

The women’s kabbadi team made history on its debut at the Asian Games. Smita thanked the coach Mukesh Kumar and Secretary of the state Kabbadi Association and Indian team manager for men and women kabaddi Kumar Vijay for boosting the morale and offering encouragement that helped her entry into the national team.

She dedicated the gold to all the Biharis whose blessings remain with her.

Kumar Vijay said India made history in both sections. In the men's section, it bagged the gold sixth time in a row, whereas in the women’s section the country got the gold in the debut.

He added that India’s fight for introducing Kabbadi in the Olympic Games will continue.
