Bihar leaders flay Chidambaram’s remarks on migrants

Patna,(BiharTimes): RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Bihar deputy chief minister, Sushil Kumar Modi and the BJP spokespersons Syed Shahnawaz Husain and S S Ahluwalia have taken strong exception to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s remarks in which he held the migrants living in the unauthorized colonies in Delhi responsible for the rise in crime in the national capital.

However, it is after the strong reaction from various party leaders of Bihar and other states that Chidambaram later on Monday withdrew his statement.

Terming the remarks as very unfortunate Lalu Yadav said that it was an attempt to “hide his own failure by putting the blame on the migrants”. He said he disapproved the statement of Home Minister. In future, he should talk about his own failure and should not put blame on others, he added. He also reminded that sometimes back the Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit also made a similar remarks.
Reacting to the remarks Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said it was highly objectionable.
Modi said though he does not know whether Chidambaram had made such a statement or not but it is highly objectionable if he had given so.
Janata Dal (United) Bihar president Bashishtha Narain Singh termed the remarks as irresponsible and childish act and a blow to parliamentary democracy.
BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Husain, however, said Congress leaders are taking out their frustrations over the party’s defeat in Bihar. Delhi Police works under the nose of the Home Minister. He should not make such statement to cover up his failures.

Another BJP spokesman, S S Ahluwalia, who incidentally hails from Bihar, said that Chidambaram should quit if he can not control the Home Ministry.
