Constable aspirants clash with police outside Bihar CM’s residence

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Police had to resort to brutal lathicharge outside the chief minister Nitish Kumar’s official residence in Patna after a large number of constable-aspirants went on rampage, blocked the roads, smashed vehicles and pelted stones on the police in and near the high security zone.



They were protesting against the alleged large scale irregularities in the recruitment of constables in the state.
In fact the protest started 10 days back when the first list of results appeared in the media. The constable aspirants then took to streets as they alleged large-scale irregularities.
They became furious on Monday when the second selection list appeared in the newspapers. A large number of them converged to Computer Bhawan in Bailey Road to register their protest.
However, when they learnt that the chief minister’s Janata Darbar, first in the second term, is going on in 1-Anne Marg they rushed there with the view to meeting the chief minister, Nitish Kumar. But they were prevented from doing so by the policemen.
This made the mob angry. They raised slogans against the government and said that they had come here with proof of irregularities to submit it to the chief minister. They alleged that though the advertisement clearly mentioned that the homeguards would not be given preference in selection they in fact got so.
However, they were chased away by the policemen on duty. The mob re-grouped and created ugly scene in Bailey Road and adjoining localities for several hours. The situation became so ugly that the police had to make a hasty retreat. A large contingent of police arrived on the spot. Many top officials were already in the CM’s residence as Janata Darbar was going on.
The constable aspirants then clashed with the constables in service and the latter had to use lathi-charge in retaliation to the stones. Many people received injuries. Several constable aspirants received injuries in the ensuing clashes.
The state DGP conceded that the homeguards were given preference because of their experience. Constable recruitment exercise began many months back yet the process is not over.
Later the chief minister said that he had asked DGP to look into the matter and added that the latter had held talks with the constable aspirants.
The appointment of police sub-inspectors, a couple of years back. was also mired in trouble with allegations of large scale irregularities.
