Bihar seeks Rs 169 crore from Centre for Gandhi Setu repair works

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar government has demanded the release of Rs 169 crore from the Centre at one go for the repairs of Mahatma Gandhi Setu, which bridges north and south Bihar.
According to reports so far Rs 70 crore had been spent over the past 10 years to carry out repair works but they failed to deliver the desired results because the repairs were carried out in bits and pieces.

Road construction department minister Nand Kishore Yadav said experts are of the view that the repairs would achieve long term results only if carried out for the whole bridge at one go.
In this regard a copy of report has been submitted to the Union ministry of road, transport and highways.
Though the 47 pillars of the bridge are in good shape yet the superstructure needs repairs, the minister said.
