Congress pushes Nitish on backfoot over central assistance

Patna,(BiharTimes): Congress on Sunday openly challenged Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar, to take part in a public debate with the party on the issue of central assistance to the state.

Talking to reporters the chief spokesperson of the state unit of the party, Prem Chandra Mishra, said Nitish or his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi should accept the challenge on the issue.

He termed Nitish’s allegation as false that the Centre had rejected Bihar’s proposals for the uplift of madrasas in six Muslim dominated districts. It was a desperate attempt to mislead the minorities on the eve of the election, he said.

Mishra said the chief minister was also not giving fact on the fund received by the Centre on Kosi flood in 2008. The Centre had provided Rs 3,800 crore for infrastructure development of the flood ravaged districts, but the state government was yet to provide utilisation certificate.

The return of Rs five crore to the Gujarat government by Nitish Kumar has encouraged Congress leaders to aggressively question the use of Kosi fund. They allege that the chief minister has lost moral ground to raise the issue any further.
