Dilip Verma re-joins BJP

Patna,(BiharTimes): Five-time MLA and Champaran Vikas Party chief Dilip Verma, along with hundreds of supporters, re-joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He represented Sikta assembly segment four times in a row as an Independent MLA, but later won on the BJP ticket in 2000. However, in 2005 he contested assembly election on the Samjwadi Party ticket but lost to Khurshid Alam of Congress.

Verma on Wednesday announced his decision to re-join the BJP in presence of its state president, Dr C P Thakur, at a Press conference.

Dr Thakur said that with the joining of Verma, the BJP’s base in Champaran area will further get strengthened.

Verma is always remembered for his unusual behaviour in Bihar assembly, which often used to provoke laughter among legislators.

However, after his return to the BJP the scenario within the NDA has taken an interesting turn. Sikta is at present represented by Khurshid Alam, who was expelled from the Congress last month after he violated the party’s whip and took part in the Rajya Sabha election on June 17. He is reportedly on way to the Janata Dal (United). If it so happens than there would be too many claimants for one seat.
