Judges refuse to break bread with Nitish

Patna,(BiharTimes): Supreme Court judge, V S Sirpurkar, the Chief Justice of Patna High Court, Rekha Manharlal Doshit, along with all the judges of the Patna High Court refused to attend the lunch hosted by the chief minister Nitish Kumar at Hotel Maurya on Sunday afternoon.

Reports said that the cancellation of lunch is seen in the backdrop of the Patna High Court order for a CBI inquiry into Rs 11,500 crore treasury scam. This is the biggest ever scam to rock the state.

According to the advocate general P K Shahi, who met the Chief Justice of Patna High Court, the lunch was cancelled as it would have given a wrong message after the High Court order. However, other sources said that it was cancelled only after the judges declined to attend it.

The refusal of the judges to attend the chief minister’s lunch is being interpreted as a great embarrassment to the state government.

However, the judges did attend the hi-tea party late in the evening organized by the Vice Chancellor of the Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) Lakshminath at its new campus in Mithapur. The chief minister was also present on the occasion.

It needs to be recalled that on June 12 last the chief minister cancelled the dinner hosted to the bigwigs of the BJP. In return the BJP leaders, including Arun Jaitley and Ananth Kumar, on July 10, refused to attend a dinner hosted by Nitish Kumar at his residence.

The following morning they all met at the breakfast hosted by the state BJP president, Dr C P Thakur.

Meanwhile, the chief minister, Nitish Kumar, earlier on Sunday inaugurated the new building of the CNLU.

Speaking on the occasion he said that the state was not far behind as far as talent, intelligence and merit were concerned.

Supreme Court judge, V S Sirpurkar, who was the chief guest, emphasized how the importance of legal studies have changed over the years. Law is not the last option for the students now, he added.

Chief Justice, Rekha Manharlal Doshit, in her presidential speech said very few students were fortunate to get high standard of education as in CNLU and added that Bihar was a cradle of civilization and learning.

Justice Shiv Kirti Singh also spoke on the occasion while CNLU, VC, Lakshminath, welcomed the guests.
