Lalu feels Rahul factor would hit Janata Dal (United)

Patna,(BiharTimes): A couple of days after the former Janata Dal (United) state president, Lallan Singh, announced his plan to support Congress candidates in the coming assembly election, the Rashtriya Janata Dal president, Lalu Yadav, seems to be a relieved man. He has no problem with the visit of Rahul Gandhi to Bihar.

Talking to newsmen on Friday he said that the Congress general secretary is welcomed to campaign in Bihar as he would only divide the upper caste votes of Nitish Kumar.

Lalu made it amply clear that the Bhumihar and Brahmin votes would shift to the Congress. However, he strongly ruled out any possibility of Muslim votes drifting towards the Congress.

Apart from Muslim-Yadav combine the RJD and LJP are strongly banking on the support of Paswans and Rajputs. RJD has got a shot in arm with the decision of former Janata Dal (United) leader in Lok Sabha, Prabhunath Singh, to join the party. Singh has a strong influence on Rajputs.

With a chunk of Bhumihars moving away from Janata Dal (United) after the state government planned to enact a Bataidari law last year and Rajputs and Brahmins have their own grudge against the NDA, political scenario seems to be taking an interesting turn.

However, the ruling coalition is doing its best to make up this loss by alluring votes of other castes. Besides, it has temporarily abandoned the idea of enacting any law on Bataidari (sharecropping).

While the BJP made Dr C P Thakur, a Bhumihar, its state president, the Janata Dal (United) managed to win back both Jagdish Sharma and Arun Kumar back to its fold. They both are strong caste leaders of Gaya-Jehanabad region.
