          Patna, Nov 10 (IANS) A Dalit man was beaten to death for plucking two   brinjals from a field belonging to a landowner of a higher caste in a village in   Bihar, police said Wednesday.  To escape the clutches of law, the landowner later offered the grieving Dalit   family Rs.75,000 and a piece of land. The family turned down the offer.

	  Suresh Manjhi, a resident of Moresand village in Samastipur district, was   caught Tuesday evening when Subodh Singh spotted him in his field.  Manjhi's family members said that Singh then locked Manjhi in a room and   thrashed him.  'He died soon after being thrown at our doorstep Tuesday night,' a family   member told IANS.  Subodh Singh later tried to persuade Manjhi's family not to approach the   police, and offered them Rs.75,000 and a some land in return.  'But the family approached us, and lodged a complaint. We will take action   soon,' a police officer said.
