Lalu hits out at media’s bias, Nitish silent on exit polls

Patna,(BiharTimes): A day after rejecting the exit poll results the RJD chief Lalu Yadav blasted the media for being biased to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He was furious over media’s prediction of a comfortable win for the NDA in Bihar.

Talking to newsmen he said there has been no development of Bihar under Nitish rule. The credibility of the media will also be exposed after the results on Wednesday. Lalu once again claimed that the RJD-LJP alliance will form the next government.

On November 20 evening, that is after the last day of the polling, at least three exit polls have predicted victory for the NDA coalition. One of them went on to give between 185 and 201 seats to the Nitish Kumar-led NDA.

Lalu alleged that the media have been allured to write in favour of the state government and create an atmosphere of victory for Nitish Kumar.

Lalu charged that at least four journalists from the national and state media have been promised Rajya Sabha seats by the ruling combine in Bihar. That is why they are writing in its favour.

He said that some journalists started predicting victory of the NDA even before the first phase of poll was over.

Lalu accused the Press of carrying out media-trial and witch-hunting, but he never retaliated.

He contested the media claim and said women, Maha Dalits and Muslims have voted in large numbers in favour of RJD-LJP alliance and not the NDA.

He strongly refuted one of the findings that a large number of Muslims voted in favour of Janata Dal (United)-BJP combine.

The RJD supremo maintained that the NDA secured 143 seats at its peaks in 2005 and his party lost 50 to 60 seats by a margin of less than 1,000 votes. He raised questions over the credibility of the exit polls and said many ministers are going to lose this time.

Incidentally, chief minister Nitish Kumar is yet to speak on the exit poll predictions but the state BJP chief Dr C P Thakur did not sound too enthusiastic either. He said that he too does not strongly believe in exit polls as they sometime go horribly wrong.
