BJP workers smash party’s euphoria, vandalized own state office

Patna,(BiharTimes): Hours after the euphoria was created by the Ayodhya court verdict in Lucknow the BJP workers went on rampage targeting everything which came before them in their own party office in Patna.

They were furious over the denial of tickets to a couple of candidates, including a sitting MLA, especially from Begusarai district.

The denial of ticket to sitting MLA Shri Krishan Singh from Begusarai assembly constituency was strongly resented. Instead Surendra Mehta got the party ticket. Singh won the by-election held last September by over 10,000 votes. The seat became vacant after Bhola Prasad Singh, minister in the Nitish cabinet, got elected to Lok Sabha on the BJP ticket from Nawada parliamentary constituency.

Apart from that they were angry over Kundan Singh getting the party ticket from Bachwara, which also falls under the Begusarai parliamentary constitutency. The workers alleged that the candidature of Arvind Singh was rejected and that Kundan got the ticket in spite of the fact that he secured just 9,000 votes in the last assembly election.

The workers smashed the TV set, broke chair and tables, threw away everything which came on their way. The office of the state party general secretary Rajneesh Kumar was completely ransacked. The workers accused him and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi of selling the tickets and said that the state leadership has ensured the defeat of the NDA candidates in the entire Begusarai district.

The live telecast of the whole event by the national television channels––many of them made it the first news––did not shame them at all. Instead they held the supporters of Rajneesh Kumar responsible for the destruction caused in the office.

It was only after the arrival of the police that the matter could be brought under control. However, a large number of them sat on dharna outside the office after police forced them out and locked the main gate.

The BJP top leaders were shocked and speechless as this happened less than 24 hours after the Allahabad High Court verdict which came as a shot in arm. Not a single party leader turned up on the spot on Friday.

Never in the history of Bihar had the party state headquarters been so systematically vandalized by the own party workers. The pent up anger only reflects how much let down the party workers are feeling.

Besides, the workers openly raised slogans against the leadership. Some of them were also angry over the way party is being treated by the chief minister, Nitish Kumar.
