Raid in accountant, colleague houses yield Rs 1.35 crore

 

Patna.(BiharTimes): A raid in the house of an accountant and his colleague posted in the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police of Muzaffarpur yielded Rs 1.35 crore in cash and jewellery. The raid followed an inquiry that confirmed embezzlement of funds worth around Rs five crore allotted to the Muzaffarpur police by the state government recently.



Besides the bank accounts with deposits showing Rs 43 lakh has been seized. A police team led by ASP Manish raided the houses of S K Choudhary, the accountant, and his colleagues Shakuntala Devi and Devi Devi in Samastipur suspecting their alleged involvement in embezzlement of funds meant for Muzaffarpur police here on Saturday morning and seized the money.

Director General of Police Neelmani told media in Patna. That while Rs 85 lakh were seized from the house of Choudhary, the remaining amount was recovered from that of Shakuntala Devi and Devi Devi.

Reports from Samastipur said that Choudhary and Shakuntala were posted at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police at Muzaffapur.
Devi is said to be close to Shakuntala. All three have been arrested and FIR was registered in this connection. Neelmani said police also seized five ATM cards and froze several bank accounts of Choudhary.
