BJP candidate’s brother caught distributing money

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Muzaffarpur police late on Tuesday night caught red-handed the brother of BJP’s candidate for Gaighat assembly constituency, Veena Devi, while he was busy distributing money to the voters of Ghausnagar village. An amount of Rs 2.32 lakh was also seized from his possession.



According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sunil Kumar the candidate’s brother Anil Kumar Singh was caught while disbursing money. Lal Babu Sharma of Minapur village, who accompanied Singh was also arrested.
Veena Devi is wife of JD (U) MLC, Dinesh Singh. She switched over from the Janata Dal (United) to the BJP only recently only to get the party ticket.
Police also arrested Umesh Sahni and Ram Babu Mandal, both BJP supporters, for accepting the cash.
The district police seized the cash and interrogated the voters who were offered money to cast their votes in favour Veena Devi.
Police have seized a motorbike from Sharma’s possession in which the bag stuffed with cash was kept. Police said that the voters were asleep when Singh arrived in the village. Soon after the news of distribution of money spread, the villagers came out of their houses and gathered in large numbers to collect it. Election observer R S Kharb of Gaighat constituency visited Gaighat police station and also spoke to the district election officer-cum- district magistrate Anand Kishore and SSP Sunil Kumar regarding the incident.
An FIR against Singh and Sharma have been lodged.
