Five Bihar cops killed in landmine blast

 

Patna, Oct 22 (IANS) Five policemen, including an inspector, were killed in Bihar’s Sheohar district Friday when suspected Maoists triggered a landmine hidden beneath a culvert as the police vehicle passed over it, police said.


The dead included Praveen Kumar Singh, station house officer of Shymapur Bhitta, Additional Director General of Police P.K. Thakur told reporters.

The incident came less than 48 hours before the second phase of polling in the six-phase elections to the 243-member Bihar assembly.

Sheohar is about 90 km from Patna.
