Umashankar resigns from RJD central parliamentary board

Patna,(BiharTimes): Peeved over the inclusion of Prabhunath Singh in the RJD the party MP from Maharajganj, Umashankar Singh, resigned from the central parliamentary board of the party. Later on Saturday he accused Lalu Prasad of functioning like a ‘monarch’.

Prabhunath lost to Umashankar Singh by a slender margin in the last year’s Lok Sabha election. However, he was upset over the joining of RJD by Prabhunath Singh. Both come from Rajput caste.

However, Lalu welcomed Prabhunath into the party as he thought that the latter is a much powerful Rajput leader and can swing the support of the caste in the favour of the RJD. Incidentally, Prabhunath too has been included in the parliamentary board of RJD, which was constituted on Thursday itself.

Like Prabhunath Singh, Umashankar was once close to Nitish and was the leader of the Janata Dal (United) in the state assembly in early years of this century. However, he quit the party and joined the RJD later.

Now he had accused Lalu of ignoring the dedicated party workers. However, political observers are of the view that Umashankar and his son, who contested on RJD ticket in 2004 parliamentary election, were feeling marginalized
