Another Muslim blow to LJP, MLA Izhar Ahmad quits

Patna,(BiharTimes): Another Muslim leader and lone MLA of Lok Janshakti Party from the community in the Bihar Assembly, Izhar Ahmed, on Monday resigned from the party to protest against denial of ticket in the coming polls.

He said that in spite of the fact that he is the only Muslim legislator the LJP leadership had denied him ticket to contest the coming Assembly election. “This has prompted me to resign from the primary membership of the party,” he said in an open resignation letter to party president Ram Vilas Paswan. The latter is in Kashmir, representing the 39-member all-party delegation. He also flayed the LJP leadership for insulting the minority community by ignoring him. Only on Saturday last a large number of Minority Cell leaders of the party resigned and joined the Janata Dal (United).

He described Paswan as an opportunist and added that the LJP chief appointed Ghulam Rasul Baliawi as the state unit chief to woo minority voters in the 2005 elections, but when it came to replacing him with another Muslim leader, he preferred his brother, Pashupati Kumar Paras.

Izhar Ahmed is a sitting MLA from Ghanshyampur seat in Darbhanga district.
