Swanky vehicles hitting roads in poll-mode Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): Never before Bihar has seen so much sale of Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva, Pajero, Scorpio etc as in the last five years. With Diwali round the corner more four-wheelers would hit the roads of Bihar.

Critics attribute it to widespread loot by a new breed of politicians in the last five years––that is by our grassroot democrats, that is, pramukhs, mukhiyas and their henchmen and contractors.

Now with election drawing near and Dhanteras too not far away it is busy season for the car-dealers in Bihar, the state flush with black money. True there are general people who are buying cars, of course smaller ones, with their hard-earned money, politicians are going for Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs).

“These vehicles are fit for hectic politicking, particularly in remote areas,” Ashish Chakraborty, a car deader, was quoted in the Times of India recently.

Safari Dicor is the most popular SUV among politicians. The report said that 55 Dicor was sold in Bhagalpur district alone in the last one month, with a dozen yet to be delivered. The figure of Patna stands at 60.

Over 200 SUVs have already been booked for next month at Tata Motors outlets in Patna. Sumo Grand is also high on demand these days.

Mahindra’s SUV, Scorpio, also witnessed sudden rise in sale, said, S P Navin, senior manager of Mahindra. About 105 to 110 Scorpios have been sold in September at our Patna showroom so far, he said. There are 200 bookings for next month. The sale figure for the month of August was only 120.

A total of 45 Mahindra Xylo were sold in September alone. There are about 20 bookings for October.

Dealers are laughing all the way to banks as politicians, mostly of ruling parties, are making a beeline for SUVs as it suit the election campaign.

SUVs are fast becoming status symbol and crowd-puller. There is something interesting in political leaders, buying SUVs.

Dearlers say that unlike doctors, engineers, professors, bureaucrats and other professionals politicians do not seek too much information about the vehicle. They simply buy a vehicle without any demand of demo ride.
