Nitish blames Centre for power shortage

Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday conceded that Bihar would continue to face power shortage till the state did not become self-reliant.
However, he passed the buck on to the Centre by stating that as long as the state is dependent on it there is little likelihood of improvement on the power front.

Talking to newsmen on the sideline of Janata Darbar he claimed that the transmission and distribution system in the state had improved thus the power consumption had increased. As such, according to him, the demand had increased manifold but where is the power to supply.

The chief minister said that earlier the state had the capacity to utilize merely 900 MW, whereas it was getting at least 800 MW daily. Now the consumption level of the state has increased to 3000 MW.
Nitish said that the crisis would continue till the state start generating power on its own. On purchasing power he said that there is no power criris, but power shortage in the state. The tender has been floated and the state is trying to purchase power to tide over the problem.

It needs to be recalled that BiharTimes was the first to raise the issue of spot purchase of power in view of the grave crisis in the state. The chief minister clarification came only after that reporting.

People of Bihar understands the problem that Bihar has meagre power generation capacity . Fine . But the government is already into the sixth year and there is no clear timeline visible by which the state will start generating at least some power of its own .

We are in 2011 and the expecation of people to get basic infrastructure will continuously increase . I hope government will finally be able to provide that within a reasonable time . With Centr'e support or without that . Time will come when people's patience will run out . Hope there is light before that happens .

Lets discuss how the government should address the problem o a warfooting . Any solutions .... apart from purchasing it ..,
