SAP personnel up in arms over allowance issue

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) was raised when the Nitish Kumar government came to power for the first time in November 2005. Many of those are ex-servicemen. Five years later they are virtually up in arms against the same government as they have not got their salary for three months. They also alleged discrepancy in payment of allowance for the panchayat election.

On Monday, during the Janata Darbar, the chief minister’s residence was in for a big surprise when some SAP personnel reached there to register their protest over this discrimination. On the same evening around 350 SAP personnel virtually raised the banner of revolt in Dehri-on-Sone Police Line. They misbehaved with the Sergeant Major Sudhir Kumar Sinha compelling the Rohtas SP, Manu Maharaj, to intervene. At many places they even refused to join duty assigned to them.

They demanded immediate payment of allowances for poll duty on a par with those of the District Armed Police (DAP). They alleged that they were being paid Rs 300 only against Rs 2,357 paid to the DAP.
Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj assured the SAP jawans of taking appropriate steps for the payment of allowances for election duty. But they kept on shouting slogans against the senior police officials till midnight.

They also alleged that they have not been paid their monthly remuneration for the past three months. Besides, they have not got their allowances for duty in the Legislative Council elections.
However, they agreed to take up the new assignments after the payment of Rs 2,357 each for election duty for three phases.

According to Sergeant Major the SAP personnel tried to assault a few personnel of the District Armed Police on the civil lines campus when they tried to pacify the former.
