Cabinet nod to divide Bihar power board

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Nitish cabinet on Tuesday gave its nod to a proposal for the division of Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) into five separate companies.
Bihar State Electricity Company (BSEC) will be the holding company. Besides, there will be four other companies. They will be known as Bihar State Electricity Production Company, Bihar State Electric Transmission Company, South Bihar Electricity Supply Company and North Bihar Electricity Supply Company.

According to the cabinet secretary Ravikant the state government will work as a guarantor and ensure that the services of BSEB employees are not affected. Service conditions of the employees will remain unchanged,

It needs to be recalled that earlier there was plan to divide the board into eight companies.Meanwhile, the general secretary of Bihar-Jharkhand Rajya Vidyut Parishad Field Kamgar Union, Amarendra Mishra, on Tuesday termed as unfortunate the cabinet approval for division the power board into five companies. He said that the decision was anti-employee and anti-consumer as it would increase power tariff exorbitantly.

This is a very welcome decision from Bihar Government. I would say it is a landmark in the Bihar's journey to prosperity .

It appears to me that the Nitish's Government is setting the stage for privatization of this sector and creating competition for the Bihar electricity Board.

I am grateful to the Nitish and his team who is working on this policy decision.Would like to congratulate people of Bihar and I am one of them.
