NCM for compensation to Forbesganj victims as per draft communal violence Bill

.Patna,(BiharTimes): Over one and a half months after visiting Bhajanpura village under Forbesganj sub-division of Araria district the National Commission for Minorities has recommended that the four victims of the June 3 police firing be compensated as per the suggestions laid down in the proposed Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill, even if it is still a draft.

The recommendation has been made as the state government has till now not announced any payment of compensation.

The 20-page report of the Commission also recommended that the Bihar government review the compensation given to acquire land and that the district magistrate be authorised to make additional payments on the basis of the then existing circle rates of land, which were higher than the compensation paid.

The police fired on the villagers of Bhajanpura under Forbesganj sub-division of Araria district after they demolished the wall erected by a glucose company on the land it got from BIADA. The land was acquired in mid-1980s and locals were protesting against the factory wall as it cut across a road.
An NCM team led by its Chairman Wajahat Habibullah and another member Syeda Bilgrami Imam paid a visit to Araria district on June 21-22.

The report said that though Araria is among the minority concentrated districts identified by the Centre for special help, the money received for school support or for anganwadis had systematically gone to areas of the district where there is negligible minority population. The Commission says it alerted the Minority Ministry on the matter.
