Bihar's ruling alliance slams UPA government on Hazare arrest

.Patna, Aug 16 (IANS) Bihar's ruling Janata Dal-United and its ally Bharatiya Janata Party Tuesday slammed the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) central government for the arrest of activist and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare in Delhi.

"Arrest of Anna Hazare has revived the fear of emergency like situation in the country. This un-democratic act of the central government should be challenged by the people," JD-U state president Basishth Narain Singh said here.

Singh led a protest march of party workers and leaders and demanded the immediate release of Hazare.

"Congress has been repeating the mistake of emergency to suppress the basic rights of protest by people. It will cost the Congress dear as widespread protests are reported in Bihar and across the country against arrest of Anna," Singh told IANS here.

Earlier, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar described the arrest of Hazare as "murder of democracy and rehearsal of emergency which people will never tolerate.

Kumar said the central government was afraid of the mass support the movement against corruption led by Hazare had garnered.

BJP workers and leaders also took out a protest march and urged people to come out in support of Hazare.
