Assembly passes resolution to rename Gaya airport after Gautam Buddha

Patna,(BiharTimes): To mark the 2600th year of attainment of enlightenment by Gautam Buddha both the Houses of the Bihar Assembly on Monday passed an unanimous resolution for renaming Gaya international airport into Bhagwan Buddha International Airport.

The Assembly passed the resolution by a voice vote after Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary put the motion for voting in the Assembly. In the Council too it was passed by voice vote.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar introduced the resolution in the state Assembly in the post-lunch session.
He hoped that the re-naming would give further boost to religious tourism at Bodh Gaya, known globally for Mahabodhi Temple and Mahabodhi Tree, which are reverred by Buddhists. The re-naming would help put the airport on the world map.

He also called for the development of world-class infrastructure at the Gaya international airport.
According to him even the international carriers run service to and from Gaya airport to cash in on the town’s status as a premier Buddhist pilgrim site in India.

It needs to be recalled that the Centre had asked the state government to submit a proposal on renaming the Gaya international airport.
