Another RTI activist killed in Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): An RTI activist, Ram Vilas Singh (56), was killed in Lakhisarai district of Bihar on Thursday. According to reports Ram Vilas, who had filed dozens of RTI applications on black-marketing, hoarding, appointment of panchayat teachers and aanganwadi workers and status of development schemes in villages, was shot dead at his native Bhabhangama village under Amhara panchayat, barely five km from the district headquarters of Lakhisarai.

Two bullets hit him in chest and he died while being taken to the hospital.

Ram Vilas was also member of Amhara panchayat samiti. He is suspected to have been killed because of rivalry with a man whose wife he had defeated in panchayat elections early this year. A murder case against unknown persons has been filed at Lakhisarai Town police station.

Though the police strongly suspect the involvement of his rival from the same village, Rajesh Singh alias Bambam, they are not ruling out other angle as he was an active RTI activist trying to expose black-marketers and hoarders.

The activist had recently received a threat call from one Roshan Singh, jailed brother of Rajesh. He had lodged a complaint against Roshan Singh at a local court recently.

A few months back another RTI activist was killed in Begusarai district of Bihar. In many cases RTI activists have been implicated in false criminal cases.
