Bihar to procure 30 lakh tonne of paddy by April 30

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar government has set April 30 next as deadline for procurement of 30 lakh metric tonne of paddy.

According to development commissioner Ashok Kumar Sinha the district magistrates would be responsible for the procurement process. They would have to ensure that things are carried out in a smooth way and see to it that the procurement starts in all districts within a week.

He said that the middlemen would not be entertained in the procurement process and added that Rs 800 crore would be paid to the farmers for their crops.

Bihar is expected to produce around 80 lakh tonnes of paddy crop this year. Around 6,000 collection centres are being opened in different districts for the state government to procure 30 lakh tonnes of paddy.

Sinha said that Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) would have 4,769 centres, Bihar State Food Corporation (BSFC) will have 1,068 centres and Food Corporation of India (FCI) will have 80 collection centres. Of the total procured paddy, FCI, BSFC and PACS would obtain five lakh tonnes, seven lakh tonnes and 18 lakh tonnes of the crop respectively.
