Confiscated house of clerk converted into girls' school

Patna,(BiharTimes): When all the schools of Patna were declared close by the district magistrate till December 25 due to cold wave students, teachers and officials from the district welfare board reached Kadam Kuan and opened the gates of the confiscated house of a tainted clerk to shift Government Girls’ Plus Two Residential School into it.

The two-storeyed house of suspended treasury clerk Girish Kumar, spread across an area of 4.75 decimals, in Kadam Kuan was on Friday (Dec 23) converted into a residential government school. There are around 12 rooms, said to be sufficient for the Class VI to XII School.

Around 140 students, teachers led by principal, Neelam Kumari and the district welfare officer, Harendra Kumar Srivastava, reached there at around 1:00 PM. Earlier, the school used to run at Keshri Nagar under Patliputra police station.

After S S Verma (IAS) Girish is the second tainted officer in the state whose house has been confiscated and converted into a school.

Though the Rukkanpura house of Verma has been converted into a school for the Dalits it failed to attract as many children as it is far away from the locality in which they live. However, the girls of this Residential School are happy as the house and its environment are congenial to them.

Like Verma, Girish too was found guilty of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known source of income. A special court had ordered confiscation of his house. But the clerk moved Patna high court, which in November last dismissed his appeal.

Girish was charged with amassing assets worth Rs 51 lakh. A vigilance case was lodged against him in 2006 for amassing properties between 1992 and 2004. The assets, according to a vigilance probe, include two plots and this house in Kadam Kuan.
