Special Council meeting in Bankipore Club on Jan 20 next

Patna,(BiharTimes): To mark the beginning ot its centenary year the Bihar Legislative Council would hold its special meeting at the Bankipore Club on January 20, 2012.

The Council with its 48 members had on January 20, 1913 held its first meeting in the Club situated at the bank of Ganga.

On January 20, 2012 all the 75 members of the Council will participate in a special meeting at Bankipore Club to relive its memory.

According to the Council Chairman, Tarakant Jha, among others the participants would include Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi, agriculture minister Narendra Singh, animal husbandry minister Giriraj Singh and education minister P K Shahi. Incidentally, all of them are members of the Upper House.

Former members of the Council have also been invited and they would sit in the audience enclosure for watching the proceedings of the special session.

The Council Chairman and some other members will go to Bankipore Club from the present Council building in horse-driven buggy.

The JD (U), BJP, RJD, Congress, CPI and CPM, which have members in the Council, would be given opportunity to put their own perspective on education, health, industry, agriculture, irrigation and environment.

It would be held in two sessions, from 11 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 4:30 pm. A classical music programme by vocalist Chhannu Lal Mishra and sarod exponent Ashish Khan, the son of legendary Ali Akbar Khan, would follow it.

The meetings of the Council in the initial years used to be held at Wheeler Senate Hall on Patna University campus, and later from 1921 at the building that is presently housing the Bihar Legislative Assembly. The present Council building started functioning in 1936.
