Caste tension in Gaya village following killing of mukhiya, three others

Patna,(BiharTimes): Caste tension prevails in Paraiya block of Gaya district following the murder of former mukhiya of the Mangrawan panchayat Vijay Yadav and retaliatory killing of three of the assailants, said to be Rajputs.

According to police Vijay was fired at near Mubarakpur village at about noon on Sunday. He died while undergoing surgery at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital.

The three assassins, believed to be contract killers, were subsequently lynched by villagers.

The former mukhiya was going to his village home on a motorcycle when three criminals intercepted him on the outskirts of the village. The criminals pumped four bullets into Vijay’s body and tried to flee the scene of the crime on their motorcycle.

Children playing nearby raised an alarm and villagers gave a hot chase to the shooters. Meanwhile, the tyre of their motorcycle got punctured forcing them to stop when the villagers overpowered them.

To scare away the villagers, they fired from their weapons. Mantu Kumar, a boy, was hit by a bullet in the stomach. The injured boy has been admitted in the Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College and Hospital where he is said to be out of danger.

Furious over the killing villagers started thrashing the three near Puna village. They were later identified as Amit, Rakesh and Ankit. They subsequently died.

While Amit was a co-villager of Vijay, the other two are said to be residents of Dindayal Nagar and AP Colony of Gaya town respectively.

According to City SP Satyavir Singh the cause of Vijay’s killing could not yet be known. He, however, did not rule out local political rivalry for the cause of the murder. Two separate cases were instituted in connection with the incident.
