Rajgir Camp: Nitish tries to woo Fund-starved party legislators

Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Nitish Kumar arranged for sumptuous meals to fulfil the appetite of Fund-starved ruling Janata Dal (United) MLAs and MLCs during the two-day party camp in the boly township of Rajgir in his native Nalanda district.

The two-day (Dec 25-26) Vidhayak-Vidhan Parhsad Shivir (MLAs-MLCs Camp), was organized to keep an eye on legislators––many of them feeling uneasy after the scrapping of the MLA/MLC Local Area Development Fund early this year. Ideas were shared with them and they were apprised of the work the state government was doing.

He listened to the speeches of 45 legislators and thus gave them a platform to vent their feelings, an opportunity they hardly get with him.

If fried green gram (hara chana), chuda (beaten rice) and jalebi were served at breakfast, rice, daal, baigan bhaja (brinjal fry), two varieties of seasonal green vegetables, papad, tilouri were offered at lunch and puri, vegetables, kheer, belgarami, gulab jamun at dinner on the second day of the Camp. Nitish personally looked into the management.

In spite of all this one of the legislators was quoted in the media as saying: “In his heart of hearts, Nitish is aware that legislators were feeling the pinch of withdrawal of the MLA/MLC Local Area Development Fund. The good food at the legislators’ camp, the sugary way he addressed us amid the green woods and enchanting hills were all ploy to keep us in good humour.”

Nitish raised the issue during the speech by stating that the Fund was a great source of embarrassment for the legislators. People pointed fingers at them. Allegations were levelled that they were misusing it. Thus the decision to withdraw the it has raised their izzat (honour) in the eyes of the people.

Meanwhile, like in the past several occasions the chief minister on Monday rode a horse-drawn carriage in Rajgir.
