AMU finally gets land, CUB landless yet

Patna,(BiharTimes): After over two years of long struggle the Bihar government finally transferred land for Kishanganj Centre of Aligarh Muslim University.
The state government on Friday transferred 224.02 acres of land to Aligarh Muslim University [AMU]. The transfer of documents along with the certificate for delivery of possession was initiated by Revenue and Land Reforms Department, Government of Bihar.

The Principal Secretary, Human Resource Department, Government of Bihar, was the authority to undertake the delivery of possession. Sandeep Kumar R Pudakalkatti, District Magistrate-cum-Collector of Kishanganj, delivered the possession as per the authorization of Bihar government.

The land falls under Chakla, (Khata no. 384) and Govindpur villages, (Khata No. 40) of Kishanganj block of the district. The land has been transferred over to the Registrar, Aligarh Muslim University by the District Magistrate.


The Minister Incharge of Kishanganj and Araria districts Brijendra Prasad Yadav, who is Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Energy, Registration and Excise in the Nitish cabinet, Anjani Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Human Resources Development Department, Government of Bihar, Brijesh Mehrotra; Commissioner, Purnea, etc were present during the transfer ceremony along with Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, Prof P K Abdul Azis, Registrar, AMU; Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel, Finance Officer and Member in charge, Property; Mrs. Yasmeen Jalal Beg, OSD, Nodal Office for AMU Centres, Prof H S A Yahya, Media Advisor, Prof N A K Durrani, former Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Research, Prof Javaid Akhtar and Principal, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Prof Ekram Husain, represented AMU.


Congress MP of Kishanganj Maulana Asrarul Haq Qasmi and local RJD MLA Akhtar-ul-Iman, who were in the forefront of the movement to get land for the Centre, were present on the occasion.


While AMU finally got land from the Nitish government after a prolong struggle, road and rail blockade, the Central University of Bihar (CUB) is yet to get land. It is at present running from rented premises on the campus of BIT, Patna. Not only that it is running under constant threat of eviction from BIT.
