Munger SP may quit rather than accept order to arrest innocent persons

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Superintendent of Police of Munger, M Sunil Naik, an IPS officer of 2005 batch, who extended what is being dubbed as protest leave, is now reportedly planning to quit the job rather than accept the unethical demand of his superiors who want innocent persons to be arrested.

Naik, it is said, went on leave on January 17, two days after he, along with others, got award from the chief minister Nitish Kumar. The leave was in protest against his superiors’ who ordered him to arrest 40 people on the plea that they were involved in the killing of 13 Maoists last December. Naik, however, found that they were innocent and it would be uneathical to arrest them.

Naik’s bosses, following diktat from top authority, had been pressurizing him to arrest these people in connection with the killing of 13 Maoists after a feast organized by villagers in Hiranmar Diara last December. The local villagers reportedly invited the Maoists for a party and than got them killed and their bodies were thrown into river Ganga.

According to reports Naik faxed his letter to the Home Secretary, Amir Subhani, on January 25 requesting him to extend his leave for three months. A copy of the letter has been forwarded to the DGP, Neelmani. Naik was earlier granted leave till January 25.

Naik, a native of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh, is an IIT Chennai graduate. He cited personal reasons for extending his leave and is now all set to quit.

Jamalpur Superintendent of Railway Police, Alok Kumar, is at present holding the additional charge of Munger SP. Since Naik would be absent for too long and may even quit, another officer is likely to be posted as the SP of the Maoists-infested district soon.
