Manmohan-bashing at Bihar BJP’s thanksgiving day

Patna,(BiharTimes): After June 13 rally on the conclusion of the national executive, the Bharatiya Janata Party held its first public meeting at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Saturday. It was organized to thank the workers for the unprecedented victory of the party in the Assembly election. They gathered to listen to some senior leaders, who left no stone unturned to train their guns directly on the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, for price rise and prevailing corruption in the country.

Unlike last year’s rally, which was held a day after Nitish Kumar’s snub to the BJP over the publication of an advertisement carrying his picture with Narendra Modi, this time the leaders did not miss any opportunity to praise the chief minister for what they dubbed all round development of the state. Unlike Narendra Modi model, leaders were heard advocating the Bihar model at the public meeting.
Though none of the chief ministers and the party patriarch Lal Krishna Advani and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj were present on the occasion, the national president, NItin Gadkari, who refused to take the name of Nitish Kumar in the June 12 rally, showered praise on him by stating that Bihar is changing under his rule.
He once again cited the old figure of 11 per cent GDP in previous five years, when the fact is that last year (2009-10) the growth rate has come down to 4.72 per cent. He also lauded the efforts of the state government in the power and industry sectors.
He said the Congress is presiding over the plunder of the wealth of the nation just as Lalu Prasad did in Bihar. He accused the government of being a mute spectator to a series of scandals.
The BJP president chose to inform the workers that even countries like Germany and Peru have withdrawn their money deposited in Swiss banks but added that the Congress-led government is not ready to even take up the responsibility on these counts.
Apart from him leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, Bihar affairs in-charge Ananth Kumar, Patna Sahab MP Shatrughan Sinha and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, party spokespersons Ravi Shankar Prasad, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Shahnawaz Husain etc were present on the occasion. Bihari Babu, it must be recalled, was ignored last time as he is known for his somewhat independent view.
Senior leaders of the BJP, which won 91 out of 102 seats it contested, highlighted the role played by the workers in bringing about, what many (privately) say unexpected victory in the election. It needs to be recalled that before the result the state BJP was expecting something between 40 and 45 seats, but surprisingly got more than double.
The leaders raised the battle cry for the 2014 parliamentary election, which they felt, would bring to end all sorts of corruption.
Arun Jaitley chose the occasion to say that the UPA’s policy is virtually a conspiracy against the people. He accused the Prime Minister of keeping the chief vigilance commissioner, P J Thomas, on his post notwithstanding the fact that the latter was faced with numerous charges of corruption.
He described the arrest of former Telecom Minister A Raja as an eyewash and said the prime minister was taking no step to catch the real culprits involved in the 2G spectrum scam, Adarsh housing and Commonwealth Games scandals.
