Varsities’ Acts need amendment for teachers’ appointment: Minister

Patna,(BiharTimes): Human Resources Development minister Prashant Kumar Shahi said that there was an urgent need to amend the existing Bihar Universities Act and Patna University Act for paving the way for appointment of teachers in various colleges of the universities of the state.

Replying to a question of Mahachandra Prasad Singh (Congress) in the Question Hour in Legislative Council on Friday he said teaching had been adversely affected in several colleges due to the large-scale vacancies. The minister said that in order to fill up the vacancies of college teachers, the Patna High Court had directed a rationalisation exercise before appointing teachers. The rationalisation exercise in varsities has been pending for the last one decade.

The minister told the House that the Chancellor’s office was yet to provide rationalisation formula to the government. Mahachandra said that most of the departments in Chapra-based Jai Prakash Narayan University and Muzaffarpur-based B R Ambedkar University, were lying vacant.
